To learn more about the locks

Inaugurated in 1833, the Carillon canal was an important military installation as well as a boon to merchants. Located 100 km from Montreal and 130 km from Ottawa, the canal now acts as a waterway for pleasure boating. You will be amazed by technology of the locks, which manage a height of 20 metres between different levels of the canal in 40 minutes. Stop by the old station, which now houses a musuem. Learn how vessels go from one level to another in the canal: a 200-tonne guillotine door opens, the basin fills, and vessels move a full 20 metres- it's an amazing sight! To be part of this incredible experience, visit the Carillon locks.
